Alex AKA “Mambo” U.S. Army Veteran, and experienced IAM representative with more than 30 years in the airline industry. His aviation career began with ValuJet Airlines in 1993, continued through AirTran Airways, and led him to Southwest Airlines in Tampa (TPA), where he has built a career defined by service, leadership, and a commitment to his fellow employees.

Alex’s commitment to the IAM goes far beyond holding a title. In 2011, he played an instrumental role in organizing the AirTran Airways workforce into the IAM, helping bring his fellow airline employees together under a union that could give them a stronger collective voice. That experience shaped his belief that union strength starts with organizing, educating, and empowering workers to stand together.

For more than 14 years, Alex has served as an IAM Shop Steward, representing members in workplace matters, contract enforcement, and grievance resolution. He currently serves as Vice President of IAM Local 2319 and as the Local’s Legislative Committee Chair, where he works to engage members in legislative issues, grassroots advocacy, political action, and campaigns affecting aviation and transportation workers.

Alex has also served as a delegate to IAM District 142 and Grand Lodge conventions, representing his fellow members in the policymaking process of the Union. Through these roles, he has participated in discussions shaping the future of the IAM, including union policy, constitutional matters, legislative priorities, and strategic direction.

His commitment to education and preparation has been a constant throughout his union career. Alex has completed Leadership I, II, III, and Advanced Leadership through the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center. He has also completed specialized Field Negotiation Preparation training through District Lodge 142, giving him additional tools to prepare for collective bargaining and advocate effectively for working people.

In 2026, Alex was selected to serve on the IAM Air Transport District Lodge 142 Bargaining Committee, representing thousands of Southwest Airlines Customer Service employees. In that role, he participates in contract preparation, proposal development, bargaining strategy, and direct negotiations with company leadership. This experience gives Alex a firsthand understanding of the responsibility that comes with sitting at the bargaining table and fighting for contracts that protect members and move our careers forward.

Alex also understands that union leadership does not stop when negotiations end. He remains active in legislative events, lobby days, political action, and grassroots campaigns designed to protect transportation workers, strengthen working families, and ensure that the voices of IAM members are heard beyond the workplace. With more than three decades in aviation, more than 14 years of Shop Steward experience, a history of organizing workers into the IAM, Local 2319 leadership, District 142 bargaining experience, extensive union education, and a commitment to legislative advocacy, Alex Mambo brings a depth of experience that can help move District 142 forward.

As part of the Forward Together slate, Alex is committed to building a stronger and more engaged District 142—one where members are educated about their contracts, Stewards are prepared to represent them, Locals have the support they need, and every member has a voice. He believes leadership should be accessible, accountable, and willing to stand with the membership when it matters most.

Join Mambo and the Forward Together slate. Stand with your coworkers. Stand for experienced leadership. Stand for strong contracts, strong Locals, and a stronger District 142.

This is what change looks like.
